Critical Thinking Workshop as a Tool for Research and Social Business: Train Your Mind in a New Way!
From October 19 to 21, 2024, Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari (MAHA) welcomed Dr. Muath Khalil Amayreh, a Senior Lecturer from the School of Business and Social Sciences at Albukhary International University (AIU). He led an intensive workshop titled “Critical Thinking Workshop as a Tool for Research and Social Business.”
This three-day event attracted 32 participants, including internal students and invited guests. Each day featured two interactive sessions lasting three hours each, where Dr. Muath encouraged participants to explore and inquire deeply into the topic. The workshop concluded with remarks from the Dean of SBSS, Dr. Noorul Hafidzah Binti Zawawi (AIU), and a session by Associate Professor Dr. Suraya Hanim Mokhtar, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation (AIU), on applying critical thinking to social business and entrepreneurship.
The workshop was inaugurated by our esteemed Chancellor, Dr. KH. Achmad Roziqi, Lc., M.H.I., in the second-floor hall of Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari. The enthusiasm among participants was palpable, and in his opening remarks, Dr. Roziqi expressed his hope that the event would inspire everyone to recognize the importance of critical thinking in problem-solving.
So, what is critical thinking? It is a questioning mechanism that goes beyond the quality of the questions to encompass the process of finding effective solutions. Dr. Muath emphasised the importance of asking the right questions to achieve the right answers. “Critical thinking is essential for improving everyday life. If you want the right answers, you need to ask the right questions, use the right tools to address the question, remain neutral and consistent, and be willing to accept any final conclusion”.
He stated we need to use these tools and methods to question our norms and discover ways to improve them. Dr. Muath highlighted the benefits of collective effort within society, emphasising that critical thinking is crucial for finding solutions that enhance our communities. He also emphasised and demonstrated how social enterprise and social business could be the solution to all our problems.
The feedback has been highly satisfactory, demonstrating the program’s significant benefits to all participants. We look forward to further collaboration with Al-Bukhary International University.
